two of his go-to cameras: the Nikon D3X
and the Nikon D3s. The D3X is Nikon’s
24.5-megapixel FX-format DSLR and is
engineered for professionals whose work
demands extreme resolution, file size and
image fidelity. “I use the D3X because of
the incredible resolution it delivers. I love
the clarity that I get out of the images,”
he explains. The Nikon D3s, meanwhile,
is prized for delivering low-noise 12,800
ISO still shooting at up to nine frames per
second. “The D3s gives me a ridiculously
huge amount of flexibility in terms of ISO.
With that camera, worrying about shooting
in low light is a thing of the past.”
Gordon also relies upon an arsenal of
NIKKOR lenses. For these photos, he shot
with an AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-200mm
f/2.8 IF-ED lens, a high-performance
zoom lens that features Nikon’s VR image
stabilization and is ideal for low-light sports
and portrait photography; an AF-S VR
Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED, a medium
telephoto micro lens ideal for extreme close-up and portrait work with greater working
distances; and an AF NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4D
IF, an ultra-fast, incredibly sharp f/1.4 lens
perfect for low-light portraits and general
photography where a shallow depth of
field is desired. “Nikon’s lenses are better
than anything I’ve ever worked with in my
life,” says Gordon, who has made Nikon his
manufacturer of choice for years—and not
just for his wedding shoots. “My studio does
almost 5,000 portraits a year. Social events.
Studio. School shoots,” he says. “You name
it, we use a Nikon to shoot it.”
