“house Above the Waves, Sea gypsy.”
The Bajau sea gypsies have moved with the
monsoons bet ween Malaysia, the Philippines and
Indonesia for centuries. Their origins preceding
the invisible national boundaries that have formed

“Karla Jean.”
When he began taking photographs in 2007 for his “Persona”
dyptych series, Jason Travis had many goals. They included
catching up with old friends, learning more about new
friends and, most significantly, photographing what they all
carried. The images expose what each individual considered
essential enough to bring with him or her every day. To date,
Travis has photographed nearly 250 subjects.
